Welcome to our Public Works Site
The Public Works Department provides many services to the residents of Skamania County. The department manages County Road, Equipment Rental and the Solid Waste Division’s.
County Road is the largest of these departments. Road maintenance is funded by gas and property taxes together with state and federal funding that allows for the maintenance and construction on your streets and bridges, provides for street lighting and signage to provide the user with the best possible transportation system.
The Equipment Rental Division owns and maintains about 90% of the County’s vehicles on the road today. Each department of the County pays for the vehicle use which pays for maintenance and replacement on any given class of vehicle. Fuel is paid for directly by the department using the vehicle so each can monitor how much fuel is being used.
The Solid Waste Division has three collection sites referred to as Transfer Stations throughout the County to serve the needs of county residents. They accept all solid waste, provide recycling education and handle all items dropped off in each recycle station. They annually provide a hazardous waste collection event as well as a countywide free disposal day to honor Earth Day to collect litter in County provided bags, tires and appliances free of charge.
The newly remodeled Skamania County Courthouse Annex provides easy access for the public in the event they are developing or building on their property. Online permit applications are available to save you a trip to our facilityor an applicant can stop by and pick up a permit applications for land development, environmental health or building construction.
