2018 was a great year for weed control in Skamania County.  The program hired 7 full-time, temporary staff and we were able to treat almost 2,500 acres.

The program also received a $5,000 grant from Bayer and $300 from the Forest Service to enhance pollinator habitat in Skamania County. We worked with the Stevenson Community Garden to install interpretive signage and a 200 square foot hedgerow for pollinators.  We also worked with the Mt. Pleasant Elementary School to enhance their garden and create wildlife habitat around a pond. Finally, with the help of volunteers, we installed a native plant demonstration garden at the Hegewald Center to promote pollinator health and value.  The garden will educate visitors about pollinators, the habitat they require, and the ease in which establishing a native pollinator garden can be achieved.
