Developmental Disabilities

The Developmental Disabilities program plans, funds, and manages local services for children from birth to three and for adults 21 and over who have developmental disabilities.  Services are provided through the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) which contracts with Skamania County Counseling Center, which in turn subcontracts with Washington Gorge Action Programs.

Eligibility 

Birth-to-three program: eligibility categories for this program are based on assessed developmental delays; a diagnosis of Down syndrome; a diagnosis of too severe to be assessed or the child meets the criteria for the Medically Intensive Home Care Program. Based on assessed delays and diagnoses, physical, occupational and/or speech therapy may be provided.

Adult Employment Services: eligibility categories for this program are Mental Retardation, Epilepsy, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Another Neurological Condition and/or Other Condition Similar to Mental Retardation; eligibility is determined by the DSHS DDD. 

Employment Services in Skamania County are based on the Individual Supported Employment model. A trained employment specialist assists the individual in finding or developing a job and may provide training and ongoing support for the individual on the job.

Other adult employment funding may be available through DSHS Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR); a representative visits different locations in Skamania County weekly. Social Security Work Incentives may also be available, please contact Social Security Administration for more information.

Services

A certified Family Resource Coordinator (FRC) assists families with the assessment, evaluation, and planning process. An Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or an Individual Service Plan (ISP) is developed with client and their representatives to clearly define the necessary services that will be provided.  Periodic evaluations are completed to assure effective service delivery.
