Skamania County Board of Commissioners

Mission:  Provide quality public services to the people of Santa Barbara County in response to their need for a healthy, safe, and prosperous environment; and to establish and maintain a workforce which reflects the diversity of the community.
Organization:  The Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Barbara is comprised of five elected officials representing each of the five supervisorial districts in the County.  Each board member is Board of Supervisors elected for a four-year term. The position of Chairperson rotates annually among the five members. The Board generally convenes in regular session on four Tuesdays each month. Two of these meetings are held in Santa Barbara and two in Santa Maria. The Board sets policy for County departments, oversees the County budget, and adopts ordinances on local matters, as well as land use policies that affect unincorporated areas (areas outside of cities).

The Board holds its business meeting every Tuesday beginning at 9:30am in the Board Room on the main floor of the Courthouse. On weeks where Monday is a holiday the business meeting occurs on Wednesday. Workshops, special meetings and public hearings are scheduled as necessary and listed on the weekly agenda.

The Board of County Commissioners is the legislative body for the County, responsible for developing Policies and Ordinances (laws) effecting and regulating all facets of local government as it relates to the citizens. The Board creates, approves and oversees the annual budget.  Other Elected Officials are responsible for the management of their offices. The Board, via appointed department heads, manage all other services; General Services (facilities, parks, recreation, human resources, risk management, information technology, and public information), Community Development, Public Works, Road Department, Community Health, and Senior Services (meals, information and transportation.) Commissioners also serve by assignment on a variety of external commissions and board as required by law or in furtherance of county goals for the benefit of our citizens.
