PETER S. BANKS

     I have held the office of Skamania County Prosecutor since January 2003.  I graduated from Gonzaga Law School in Spokane, Washington, in May 1976, and have been a licensed attorney since that time.  After being in private practice in Renton, Washington for sixteen years, I moved my family to St. Augustine, Florida and served as a Public Defender until 1998.

        I moved to the Gorge in 1998 and was hired as the County's Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney.  My wife, Gail, home-schools our children, Courtney and Alexandra.  They are active in 4-H as well as gymnastics. 

         I am the chief legal officer for Skamania County acting as legal counsel and providing legal advice to the Board of County Commissioners and other elected officials.  By law the Prosecuting Attorney is not permitted to give legal advice to the public.  The primary mission of the Prosecuting Attorney is to enforce criminal laws.  Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys are appointed by the Prosecuting Attorney to help perform these duties.  The Prosecuting Attorney and Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys must be admitted to practice law in the State of Washington.
