BACKGROUND: Skamania, Klickitat, PROJECT GOALS: This project targets 1) identifying high risk areas using existing fire survey protocol (NFPA 299) compatible with GIS data bases; 2) working with rural volunteer fire districts to identify and remedy equipment and training, and 3) educating rural dwellers in wildfire survivability and damage prevention. EXPECTED OUTCOMES: are establishing structure for a four-county-wide GIS data base, data collection within identified high-risk areas; data bases describing rural fire districts; increased access to grant funding by rural volunteer fire districts; and increased fire-wise management of rural homes and properties. The survey data will provide information to emergency planners and responders allowing better identification of fuels mitigation areas and safer response to emergency situations. ____________________ Cooperative Extension Programs are open to all without discrimination.
